"Our Ambient World" SFX Library
Submission Deadline: December 1st, 2013.
Hello, everyone!
I would first like to thank all of you for taking the time to participate in this project. We have people signed up from all over the world and the potential for this library is outstanding! As you have probably noticed, the name for the library has changed. It's something a little more fitting for the community.
This thread will be used to communicate during the recording phase of the project. Only people that have signed up have access to this password protected thread, so please keep the password to yourself. If you have any questions along the way feel free to post them here.
Crowdsource Library Submission Process
Process:
Participants will have two months to contribute. Only one recording is needed to have access to the rest of the library. If you would like to record more than one, please keep it to a maximum of three recordings to prevent this library from becoming to large to download. Multiple files are encouraged though!
After delivering the file with the below specifications, contributors will receive a download link shortly after the deadline has been reached. It my take some time to perform a quality control check on all of the files. Hopefully the library will be available to everyone within a few weeks after the submission deadline.
File Format:
All files should be recorded as a .BWF (or .WAV) file in stereo at 96kHz, 24bit. The file should also be 3-5 minutes long. Please submit no more than 3 files.
File Naming:
Please keep file names fairly short (31 characters if possible) and use underscores instead of spaces when necessary.
Use the following order for naming conventions:
AMB_Rural_Day_Death_Valley_Desert_Wind_01
AMB_Rural_Night_Caumasee_Forest_Birds
AMB_Urban_Day_London_Tube_Subway
AMB_Urban_Night_Chicago_Alley_01
AMB_Urban_Night_Chicago_Alley_02
If numbering variations please start with a suffix padding of "0" (01, 02, 03).
Meta-Data:
I am currently looking over possible free solutions for people to add their own metadata. If you have the ability to add meta-data please do so. If not, please create a simple text document with relevant information. Note the location, time of day, the recordist, and any other information you think will be useful. I will also listen and add any additional information if needed.
Photo (Optional):
I thought it would be fun to have a picture to go along with the recordings. Please provide a high quality photo of the location that is being recorded. This is not a requirement.
Submission:
You will need a Google Drive account.
Upload your file to your local Google Drive account and grant me access to the password protected folder. My email address is mikequell [ a t ] gmail [dot] com. Once the file is confirmed I will copy the file to a folder with everyone's contributions and grant you access to the password protected library shortly after the deadline. From here you can sync the files to your local computer. I recommend using Google’s local app that you can download to your PC/Mac/Linux.
Please make sure your email has your correct contact name. If not, please leave a note (in the email or uploaded folder) when sharing your uploaded file so I can keep track of who has shared what.
If you have already submitted something to me before this contributor thread was opened, please do so again.
Retrieval:
Shortly after the deadline has been reached I will email contributors a password protected link to the file locations.
Legal:
A contributors submission and involvement in this project is a digital signature that they agree to not sell or repackage the contents of this collection for redistribution in any way. By downloading and contributing to the project, contributors agree to give up any artistic credit required for using the submitted source recording.
