Re: Idea Pool for A New Crowdsourced Library
Hi all,
It looks like the most votes are for the "Still Life (quiet, occupied spaces)" category but there is already a library from Echo Collective called Quiet Spaces, and if you check here... http://audibleworlds.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=281 you'll see that (before I knew that the Quiet Spaces library existed) I made the suggestion which started the new Quiet Crowds theme at The Sound Collectors' Club.
My thoughts are that, while the Still Life sounds are good to have, they're already being fairly well covered elsewhere. Forests seems like a pretty good idea to me, since there would be people contributing from various countries, and we could get some nice sounds that would otherwise be really difficult for each of us to record on our own -- without some extensive traveling anyway.
Just my thoughts
Eric Mooney

Re: Idea Pool for A New Crowdsourced Library
Yea, it's a little weird. Sorry about that. A lot of people wanted to do "quiet occupied rooms" before we started our last library, which was back in November of 2014.
I couldn't find Echo Collective's library. Do you have a link for that one? For the Sound Collector's library, don't you have to pay to be a part of it? I remember reading that those libraries aren't catered to hobbyists/enthusiasts looking to get into recording, thus the price of entry.
Regardless of all of this, I'm down for whatever though! I don't have a horse in this race. I'm here to just stimulate the community. Thus the voting process.

Re: Idea Pool for A New Crowdsourced Library
Mike,
I guess the "quiet occupied rooms" was a pretty popular request with a lot of people. Echo Collective made their library recently, and simultaneously some members here on Audible Worlds and I all wanted recordings of the same exact thing.
Echo Collective have their Quiet Spaces library posted here... http://echocollectivefields.com/quiet-spaces/
You're correct about the Sound Collectors' Club. There is an annual fee of roughly $30 (after conversion from pounds). I think it's worth it, but you're right in saying that it may not be for hobbyists/enthusiasts since you do have to pay for the yearly membership.
I'm still down to do the "quiet occupied rooms" on here if that's what everyone else decides they want to do. I'd personally really love to have more forest recordings though since quiet forests can be hard to come by. A lot of them here in northern CA (for example) are too close to highways and/or roads and aren't as usable because of all the cars in the background.
IRs were a close 2nd place for me -- seems like I don't ever have enough of those or forests.
Eric

I agree. To put it into perspective, forests and IRs were the two libraries I added and personally wanted. I think we are in the same boat.

IRs could be very interesting.
would this be limited to IRs of real spaces? IRs,similar to Diego Stoccos collection from the Rhythmic Convolutions video course could also be interesting.

Re: Idea Pool for A New Crowdsourced Library
Hi everyone,
So it looks like the "Forests" category is in the lead for being the next crowdsourced library here. I'm OK with doing whatever everyone else wants to do, although I did personally vote for Forests because quiet ones (without planes, cars in the background, etc.) can be super hard to come by these days.
I'll wait and see what everyone else who's participating ends up voting for In the meantime here's a short excerpt of a recording that I made in the Sierra Nevada mountains a couple of weekends ago, in case you want to check out an example of what I'd contribute if Forests ends up being chosen.

Best,
Eric

Nice recording, Eric! Sounds like you were pretty close to some of the wildlife. I've been a bit busy of late so thanks for giving this thread a bump. Hopefully we can jump start it again soon. For now, let's keep the voting going.emooney wrote:Hi everyone,
