Re: Developing for Oculus Rift and VR Platforms
Hey y'all. I know this thread is a couple of months old, but I'm starting to get more requests for VR/3D sound and I wanted to ask more about it. The project I spoke about earlier in this thread was one where I just prepared a bunch of assets and handed them off to a programmer, so for all intents ...

Re: Feedback on audio using analytics ?
In the Mobile / On-Line / Indie spaces budgets are often so low they don't allow the resources (content, middleware, code support, design time) required for a successful audio experience. I'm trying to figure out ways to prove setting the quality bar this low results in people just turning the sound...

Re: Feedback on audio using analytics ?
do you think this info could be a measure of success or failure for audio design ? For example if the game is launched and the dev realizes that 70% of people are turning the sound off we would see if 'improving' the audio design in a patch or update resulted in 40% of new players turning the sound ...

Feedback on audio using analytics ?
I'm looking for feedback from anyone having experience with a game / app that has used analytics to provide visibility into how long it takes players to either turn the sound off entirely or change the mix using sound options. By analytics I mean information being collected and sent back to the deve...

Re: Waves SoundGrid Systems
In 2006 I bought two Waves APA32 rack mount units essentially the predecessors to SoundGrid. What a friggin' waste of money. But it was a different time in computing where radical gains in desktop performance were happening every 6 months. I had these things connected to a Mac G4 running ProTools 6 ...

Re: Developing for Oculus Rift and VR Platforms
I've done a few projects now using the Unity game engine and Oculus Dk2. Really glad to see a thread go up. I'm dying for insight on the subject from other designers working on Oculus stuff. So far my observations are .. 1st Person - Both projects were a '1st person experience' so all my observation...

Re: Showreels and Copyright
Re-design videos are in my experience are confusing to use as examples of your work with potential clients & employers. I feel like they are actually only useful to other sound designers who understand the context and know what they are listening for. So although you're benefitting from the polished...

Re: Idea Pool for A New Crowdsourced Library
Yeah I feel like what would be easiest to capture would be real crowds on location. From my basic understanding the term 'walla' is quite specific to loop groups doing background voices isolated in a studio. I've gotten perfectly usable stuff by standing around in locations with people but no music ...
